Music Teacher Bio For Dr. Eugenia Garrity
Eugenia Garrity a native of Tallahassee, Florida is an active recitalist, adjudicator, and teacher of voice. She brings to the profession an extensive background in music including oratorio performance, recitalist, university level vocal instruction, piano skills, lecturer, radio host, and Summer Music Camp Director. Dr. Garrity trained with Beverly Wolff and then completed her Master's and Doctoral studies in Vocal Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Jan DeGaetani and Thomas Paul. At Eastman, Dr. Garrity was awarded a Graduate Teaching Fellowship and named Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant as a Studio Voice Instructor in basic vocal techniques and methods. As a vocal instructor, Dr. Garrity has produced successful students at the college and high school levels. Her students consistently earn high grades at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions. She is frequently called on as an adjudicator for organizations such as NATS, the State of Florida "Arts for a Complete Education" Competition, and the "Negro Spiritual" Scholarship Foundation. As a recitalist and an educator Dr. Garrity takes great interest in the mechanics of good vocal sound production and recently delivered a lecture entitled "Why Diction" at the Central Florida Chapter of NATS. Dr. Garrity explores techniques to interest students of all ages in techniques of good singing. Dr. Garrity utilizes an extensive electronic collection of vocal music in her studio and encourages students to use computer/audio techniques in learning foreign language diction and vocal literature. Likewise, digital video technology is also used to enhance performance skills.
